Bearsted Parish Council has decided to prepare a neighbourhood plan. Neighbourhood plans were introduced by the Localism Act 2012 and are a new way of helping local communities to influence the planning of the area in which they live by developing a shared vision for land development in their area. A neighbourhood plan can cover a range of planning issues that are locally important, for example the community facilities that are needed and the green spaces that should be protected.
As the first stage in the process Bearsted Parish Council has applied to Maidstone Borough Council to designate a ‘Neighbourhood Area’. This is the area that the parish council wants the plan to cover.
The application which includes a map of the proposed “Neighbourhood Area” can be viewed on theBorough Council www.maidstone.gov.uk and Bearsted Parish Council website as,www.bearstedparishcouncil.gov.uk, and on the village notice boards.
There are no detailed plans at the moment since these will be the subject of consultation and discussion with parishioners during the coming months.
