The Pond

The Parish Council have had many correspondences from residents questioning why the pond on The Green has been left to empty.

For a long time, the water in the pond has been naturally draining away and been topped up by the tap on the village green as rainwater was not enough to sustain it.  It was felt by the council that this was irresponsible as this not only wasted water but was costing a considerable amount of money.

Over the past six months the Parish Council have been very concerned about the pond and have been researching what is the best course of action. The council have enlisted a number of experts to inspect the pond to provide advice.  This is currently still underway and the council are hopeful to receive recommendations about the action required soon.

This subject will remain an agenda item at the Environment Committee’s meeting until this situation is resolved.

Mynn Awards 2019 – Parish Council awards for community heroes

Bearsted Parish Council is once again seeking nominations for local residents who deserve a special award for their efforts within the community. This year will also see the addition of a youth award. Do you know someone who assists with selfless acts in the parish and doesn’t receive the recognition he or she deserves? The annual Mynn Awards acknowledge local people who have made an outstanding contribution to Bearsted, their neighbourhood or helping others on a regular basis. Past recipients have included volunteers, charity workers, sportsmen and women and supporters of many organisations, including our churches. This year sees the new additional Youth Community Awards. These will allow schools and residents to nominate younger members of the Community who have made a significant contribution to their school or club or to the community.
The Mynn Awards will be presented at next year’s annual parish meeting on the evening of May 1, 2019. The judging panel is made up of members of the council and the community. The awards are named after Alfred Mynn, a Bearsted resident who played first class cricket in Kent during the 19th century, famously scoring a second innings century in 1936 having suffered a broken ankle. We shall also be giving our community award certificates in recognition of specific services to the local community. There are several ways to nominate residents, including calling the parish office for us to fill in the form for you, or emailing your nomination to admin@bearstedparishcouncil.gov.uk or by using the online web forms
