Bearsted and Thurnham Society

The Society cares about Bearsted and Thurnham and their residents. It is vigilant in scrutinising proposals for change which might threaten the character of the two parishes, their gardens and other green open spaces, their Conservation Areas, the North Downs Area of outstanding Natural Beauty, and the area of special landscape value in its foreground.

Members are kept updated of important information via email and the website.

Bearsted CAN

Bearsted CAN are a very sociable, active, inclusive and nonaligned group looking at both personal and local ways mitigate and adapt to the climate & ecological emergency.

We have many interesting and fun activities, looking to engage others in Bearsted and surrounds, to be involved. These include regular speaker events, a bimonthly local Repair Café, practical projects around Bearsted like the Bearsted Station Roadside Nature Reserve, our very successful Plastic Free Bearsted campaign – with a number of local Plastic Free Allies, a local People Planet Pint pub and chat meeting bimonthly (there is a free pint on offer!), litter picking drives, school/young people links and involvement in our local Bearsted Fayre.

Bearsted & District U3A

Bearsted & District U3A

The U3A movement is a unique and exciting organisation which provides, through individual U3As all around the country the opportunity for retired and semi-retired people to come together to socialise and learn together, not for qualifications, but for its own reward; the sheer joy of discovery!

We meet at 2:00 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month at Detling Village Hall, Pilgrim’s Way, Detling, Kent, ME14 3EY.
