Time has flown by with Friday seeing the end of another successful playscheme. It has been a busy 8 days for the staff and children with so many fun activities taking place, including:
With the beautiful weather, both Friday fun days meant we could make most of being outside with an inflatable assault course and bouncy castle on the field, as well as Didi cars and an ice cream station.
We are grateful to Footie 4 Tots, PC James Phillips our local BEAT police officer and Callum Adams the paramedic who gave up their time for free to visit and entertain the children. It was amazing to see them so engaged and interested.
We wouldn’t have been able to do all this without those who sponsor and/or offer their time to assist us in the running of the playscheme.
We would like to say a big thank you to Bray and Sons who kindly transport all the playscheme equipment before and after each year, free of charge.
Our thanks go to The Oak on the Green and the Bearsted for donations towards the daily fruit snacks. JD Bush Decorators, Kent County Council, Thurnham, Boxley and Downswood Parish Councils for their donations to the running costs. Also thank you to BP leisure and workwear for sponsoring our staff t-shirts.
Lastly a huge THANK YOU to Amanda and Jo for running yet another great playscheme for 2024.

KCC Local Transport Plan 2024_A4 PosterFurther details have now been received from KCC Highways regarding the Bearsted Road improvement project. Previous information highlighted the lack of indexation uplifts on the majority of the project budget and the fact that any increase in cost sits solely with KCC as the Highway Authority. This remains the case and as previously notified, they have closed down the early works site and the temporary site cabins have been removed. The site compound and the area of the new access road have been secured temporarily whilst KCC seek an alternative contractor for this project.
KCC say they are still committed to the delivery of the main scheme and they are actively seeking a more cost effective solution for the construction. An updated set of documents have been sent out to the industry to invite new submissions for the works, a process that will take several months. The eventual programme will need to tie in with other works and available road space as well as agreements with the adjacent landowner. KCC have reduced project construction risks by completing some of the critical offline works in advance and had further detailed engagement with the many utility companies affected by these works to minimise those impacts.
Once KCC has further news about the construction contract for the main works on the highway, a more comprehensive briefing and newsletter will be circulated to residents. The project website is being updated to reflect the current position.
Due to the summer playscheme, please note the Parish Office opening hours are slightly different whilst office staff assist at the event.
