Damage to The Green

It has saddened the Parish Council and residents that the Parish Green has been used by some for the location of barbeques which has resulted in the grass being scorched.  The Parish Council would like to highlight the following By-laws:

5. Prohibited uses include:-

·         Any physical alterations to the Green

·         Wilful damage (i.e. when a person was aware of the risk of damage)

·         Pyrotechnic or the lighting of fires

6. Enforcement

Where a party or parties are proved to have been misusing the Green, creating damage or alteration to its original fabric the Parish Council will deem those persons responsible for unlawful damage and take action for the Green’s repair or reinstatement.

Those responsible will be expected to pay all subsequent costs in relation to the Green’s repair/reinstatement, and works will be subject to timescales laid down by the Parish Council.

In some circumstances damage or encroachment may result in criminal proceedings being taken by the Parish Council.

Should the Council have to carry out its own works in relation to repairs/reinstatement or employ a contractor/individual; all costs incurred will be automatically charged to those individuals responsible for the damage or alteration

The Pond

The Parish Council have had many correspondences from residents questioning why the pond on The Green has been left to empty.

For a long time, the water in the pond has been naturally draining away and been topped up by the tap on the village green as rainwater was not enough to sustain it.  It was felt by the council that this was irresponsible as this not only wasted water but was costing a considerable amount of money.

Over the past six months the Parish Council have been very concerned about the pond and have been researching what is the best course of action. The council have enlisted a number of experts to inspect the pond to provide advice.  This is currently still underway and the council are hopeful to receive recommendations about the action required soon.

This subject will remain an agenda item at the Environment Committee’s meeting until this situation is resolved.

Operation Brock, Monday 25th March, 2019

From this morning, Monday 25th March, 2019, ‘Operation Brock’ will be in place, meaning that the M20, J8 to J9 coastbound will be used exclusively for lorries heading to Dover port.

M20, J8 to J9 London-bound will be used for regular traffic. Four lanes (including the hard shoulder) will be split into 2 lanes heading coastbound and 2 lanes heading London-bound.

Please note: There will be no access for regular traffic coastbound from Junction 8 of the M20; vehicles joining at this junction will need to travel London-bound to Junction 7 and turn around to join the contraflow.

Disruption may not be limited to travel – there could be a knock-on effect on other businesses and services:

Bearsted Parish Council would suggest residents consider the following recommendations before they travel:

  • Anticipate longer journey times – check the latest travel updates and leave plenty of travel time.
  • Keep food and drink in your car/with you for potentially longer periods of travel.
  • Keep your fuel topped up within your vehicle.
  • Make childcare arrangements (if applicable) with friends and family in the event of longer journey times.

Although we understand the frustration this causes, please continue to be courteous and show consideration to other road users in Bearsted.
