A wonderful initiative has been put in to action by resident Elaine Cooper. Bearsted Book Exchange has put the recently adopted phone box on The Street to dual use. Not only is it home to one of Bearsted Parish Council’s new defibrillators it is now a place that people can come to find new novel or book of general interest.
The Book Exchange works by bringing a pre-loved book to the phone box in exchange for a book that catches your eye.
The Book Exchange will be trialled for 6-months.

This year, for the second year, Kent County Council is taking part in the NHT Public Satisfaction Survey on highways and transport services. Whilst the main survey is being carried out by Ipsos MORI, who will be sending forms to a representative sample of households, we have also opted to take part in six web-based surveys on specific issues:
• Highway maintenance
• Accessibility
• Walking and cycling
• Public transport
• Road safety
• Tackling congestion
https://kccconsultations.inconsult.uk/…/Na…/consultationHome
The greater the take-up of the surveys, the more useful they will be in helping us to understand the priorities and concerns of people who live or work in Kent, so please feel welcome to complete any of the surveys which interest you. If you have any issues or concerns then please feel free to contact KCC www.kent.gov.uk/resurfacing
Bearsted Parish Council would welcome your comments on the following proposal.
Members of the Parish Traffic Working Group have been working closely with Kent County Council Highways Department to try and find a solution to the ongoing problems of parking and speeding along Ware Street.
Having looked at several options it is proposed that double yellow lines are installed to the north side of Ware Street from the vicinity of Chapel Lane to the area opposite Sandy Lane, with a 25m section of time restricted parking bays for 4-5 vehicles. The position of the parking bays is intended to provide some degree of traffic calming, particularly for vehicles travelling east under the rail bridge, whilst providing a clear ‘sight-line’ so that vehicles can pass those that are parked. Residents should note the proposed parking time limits of a maximum stay of 4 hours between the hours of 9.00am – 3.30pm Monday – Friday.
Comments and responses to this proposal are invited by post or email to the Parish Clerk clerk@bearstedparishcouncil.gov.uk by 20th September 2019.
We would also like to advise that discussion with KCC are ongoing regarding possible pedestrian crossing(s) on Ware Street and we will contact residents when we have more information.
Consultation Aug 19.Please be aware that the Parish Office will be closed until Wednesday 4th September at 9.30am.
If your enquiry is urgent please email deputy@bearstedparishcouncil.gov.uk
The Parish office will be closed this week.
Emails will be monitored throughout this period.
Please can we remind residents and visitors to Church Lane and the Church Landway that the car park is closed for resurfacing works from this Monday 12th August 2019 for a period of approximately 2 weeks. There will be a stage during these works after the initial tarmac is laid, that the area is left for residues to disperse before the golden shingle is laid on top. It is crucial during this period that vehicles are kept off of the surface as they will interfere with the process and cause a delay to works.
Bearsted Parish Council thank residents and visitors for their understanding and patience during the necessary works.
Due to staff illness the Parish office is closed until Monday 22nd July.
If you have any enquiries please email deputy@bearstedparishcouncil.gov.uk
