Antisocial behaviour – Church Lane car park
/in News /by Erin SugdenAt the extraordinary meeting of the full council that took place on the 2 February members of Bearsted Parish Council listened to many residents’ concerns about the antisocial behaviour taking place in the Church Lane car park. The issues raised were also heard by the local Police Community Support Officer and the Community Warden who were present at the meeting.
A number of cars associated with the antisocial behaviour had been reported to the Police who have since visited the homes of the car owners and warned that any persistent behaviour will result in a Section 59 being issued. Section 59 allows the police to give drivers a warning if they are reported to have used their vehicle in a manner that causes “alarm, distress or annoyance”. If reported to have done so again within a year the Police have the right to confiscate the vehicle and crush it.
Residents and councillors put forward other preventative measures which are to be investigated as a matter of urgency.

Yesterday Cllr Michael Bollom oversaw the planting of two new trees on The Green.
On the westerly edge of The Green is a Quercus Robur ( English Oak ), which is a replacement for the Cherry tree that had to be felled a year ago. This tree will be dedicated to Queen Elizabeth II when celebrations for her Platinum Jubilee take place in June of this year.
On the easterly edge is the introduction of a new Prunus ‘ Kanzan’ also known as a Cherry Blossom.
Auction of Old Library site
/in News /by Erin SugdenBearsted Parish Council were not informed and has not been consulted about the proposed sale of the Old Library site on Bearsted Green.
As the relocation of the library to Bearsted train station was only supposed to be a temporary measure, whilst refurbishment of the Old Library took place, we are seeking answers from Kent County Council as to what consultations took place regarding the permanent closure of this site, its sale, as well as the future of Bearsted Library.
We have written to Kent County Council requesting clarification and together with our borough councillors are seeking a delay to the auction of this site whilst investigations or the necessary consultations take place.
Bearsted Market on The Green
/in News /by Erin SugdenBearsted Parish Council are thrilled to announce that Bearsted Market on the Green will be returning every first Sunday from 6th March 2022.
Local volunteer Vanessa Flanagan has taken on the task of organising this much-loved event and is excited about its return to the village green.
You can expect to see some previous favourite stallholders selling breads, pastries, meats, cheese, and game along with a wide range of artisan crafts. There will also be hot drinks and food available to eat and so we welcome everyone to come down and join us.
Vanessa has identified that during the past 18 months there has been a rise in local distilleries which she is looking to bring to Market on the Green.
Bearsted Parish Council are excited for the Market as it has always been a great place for residents to meet for a catch-up with friends and pick up some quality local products.
The Market will open at 9.30am and close at 1.30pm.
If you are interested in taking a stall please contact Vanessa or find further details on Facebook
