Community Bunting Project for the Queens Jubilee

For the Platinum Jubilee, we would love the community to come together, not just at our Jubilee picnic on the Green, but also in creating some community bunting with which to decorate the village.

Bearsted Parish Council would love to increase the community involvement in our Jubilee celebrations and we are asking the community to create bunting triangles, which will be joined together and used to create colourful event décor for the community.

  1. Simply down load the free template from the link below or create you own template.
  2. Reuse some old fabric (crazy patterns, colourful, anything that feels fun) and start creating or decorating your triangles.
  3. Please use fabrics such as cotton or any similar tight woven fabrics and craft the edges so as not to fray. This can be done with pinking shears, using an overlocker, sewing machine or handstitched or any other way you may know of.
  4. Once completed, please drop into the BPC office at Madginford.
  5. The triangles will be joined together and used to decorate the village for the Jubilee
  6. Please make the triangles only and do not attached to ribbon.

Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Picnic 5th June 2022

Bearsted Parish Council’s  Platinum Jubilee  ‘Picnic on the Green’ has sold out and there will not be tickets available at the gate.

The event will open at 11.30am and will feature local musical artists, dancers, games, food, and drinks from 12noon.

To commemorate the celebration we will also be unveiling the plaque under the newly planted English Oak tree, forming part of the Queen’s Green Canopy which has been created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee.

With just under a week to go until our Jubilee picnic on the Green, we wanted to let you know some final arrangements for what will hopefully be a joyful and momentous afternoon.

There will be 2 entrances to the picnic site, East, next to the cricket pavilion and West, opposite the children’s playground.

The gates will open at 11.30a.m. Please do not queue in the road. If the entrance is busy, please queue along the edge of The Green at the East gate and along the road adjacent to the pond at the West Gate. (This road will be closed to traffic).

There will be no entrance from Market on the Green, but the market can be accessed from the Picnic area, once you have received your wristband at either the East or West entrance.

In order to get everyone onto The Green quickly and safely, please have your tickets ready for inspection. You will be given a wristband, which you must wear in order to gain readmission onto the site. Parents may wish to write their mobile phone numbers on their children’s wristbands in case a child gets lost. Please also ensure that children know that the Event Control is at the cricket pavilion

There will  be free crown making kits for the children, courtesy of King and Johnston Homes. Please feel free to bring along additional embellishments and decorations if you wish, as there will be a crown parade with prizes later in the afternoon.

If you have reserved a table and bench set, you will be directed to a central point from where you can collect your tablecloth and select a table. Please note the tables are slim German beer tables, sufficient to rest drinks and food on, and benches seat 6-8 people. There will not be a separate area for the tables, so friends without tables are welcome to join you and gather around your table, with their own chairs or picnic rugs.  Please be respectful of people around you and refrain from blocking the view of picnic-goers, who may be trying to watch the entertainment.
